Ingredients

  • 1 lb italian sausage (typically when making for family, she doubles the recipe and uses 1 lb "sweet" and 1 lb "hot" italian sausage)
  • 1 small onion (~ 1/2 to 3/4 cup chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 15-16 oz tomato sauce
  • 12 oz tomato paste
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 1.5 tsp basil
  • 1 tsp marjoram
  • 1-2 bay leaves
  • optionally some rosemary
  • 1 cup water

Procedure

  1. Brown meat with onions, adding garlic for a minute or so at the end
  2. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for about an hour
  3. Adjust consistency by adding water as needed
